Using another challenge as a means to create a schedule during the lockdown! So never done sketch a day May, but it's pretty self explanatory. I don't generally have a problem with drawing or painting everyday, but I wanted to use this one as a means to practice design. I just finished a painting challenge so wanted to work on core functional designs. It is also MerMay this month too, and I will be doing the odd mermaid here and there! Here I have included a desert merman, much like the ancient coelecanth these slithery creatures are the fish of the desert. Their hide is more leathery than scaly, but they are incredibly agile and nimble in the hot sands of the western searing cauldron. They generally live on a diet of small lizards and birds, by laying ambush in the sands beneath them. However in larger packs they may take down larger prey such as desert larvae and wild cats.
There are also the elusive insect people of the desert. They have different roles in society. With a somewhat disproportionate humanoid body mixed with that of an insect, they are very industrious and are forever conquering new territory. Wary of the desert mermen they often leave each others' lands alone.
